'Here's Hope'
Acrylic & Water-Soluble Oil Paint
£400.00
Here’s Hope is an original acrylic and water-soluble oil painting on wood panel (25 × 30 cm), inspired by ancient temperate rainforest sites in Wales. The scene was observed at Portmeirion Gardens on a wet summer’s day, when colours deepened, textures softened, and the forest felt quietly alive.
This work centres on a lone epiphyte growing from a fallen tree trunk—caught in a pocket of light where the tree once stood. That small break in the canopy allows light to shine through the green leaves, giving them a soft luminosity even on a grey day. Mosses and bark tones ooze rich purples, alongside subtle hints of fungal spores, revealing the hidden life thriving within decay. The painting reflects the quiet harmony of these ecosystems, where every surface becomes a site of regeneration.
Painted directly onto wood, the natural grain of the panel is intentionally left visible, echoing the age, texture, and history of the trees themselves. Layered colour and expressive mark-making evoke the dense networks of epiphytes, bracken, mosses, and lichens that define these endangered rainforest landscapes—offering a gentle reminder of resilience, renewal, and hope.
